Into the Quiet : Press Release
Into the Quiet is a collection of hauntingly beautiful portraits of trees & the mysterious world of the forest
This body of work characterises the internally epic proportions & mystery that the artist feels, when alone & still, surrounded by the unrivalled beauty of nature
When not on commercial assignment, Pelly likes nothing more than to escape the hustle & noise of humanity by completely immersing himself in the quiet & majesty of a nature’s wilder places
Here he often remains for days, completely cut off from the world outside, allowing the more-than-human world to speak to him
"Like the human portraits I capture, trees have a character all of their own
They can be solitary, gathered, frail or proud but never being anything other than themselves
I find an honesty, a deep truth & something deeply hopeful here
Trees & the Forest hold a collective resonance, a frequency that has the potential to awaken our subconscious if we allow them to; they hold ideas as to how we might rescue our lives"
All the images are shot using a large format field camera with original polaroid film
Pelly then uses a chemical technique stumbled across by accident, while processing the polaroids negatives
This accidental process magically enhances the organically ethereal quality of these images
